about
On the surface Hey Baby I’m Gone is another break up song, but it is more about the difficulties that the central character is facing in life. The actual split in the relationship is due to circumstances beyond the characters control and the main character’s life ends up spiraling out of control. He is forced into a situation where is perpetually travelling, scattering pieces of himself wherever he goes, and he is left with a longing for a safe place to call home.
lyrics
I am cut in two, and I am stuck in nowhere.
I’m thinkin’ about what we’d do, if life was ever fair, but.
Time was not on our side, this we found was true.
Now until the end, should have been me and you.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a bird that’s taking flight.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a ship set sail at night.
Hey baby, I’m gone.
You can sit and watch the light, slip from out of site, but hey baby I’m gone.
It could not have been worse, even if I tried.
Now the devils got his curse, to keep him satisfied.
When all I see is home, but I don’t hear a sound.
Now the miles I roam, are puttin’ me in the ground.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a bird that’s taking flight.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a ship set sail at night.
Hey baby, I’m gone.
You can sit and watch the light, slip from out of site, but hey baby I’m gone.
The ocean heaves and churns or sits softly like a sheet.
The highway twists and turns, but stays beneath your feet.
One hand holds the door, one hand holds the key.
Always there seems more, left behind and less of me.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a bird that’s taking flight.
Hey baby I’m gone, like a ship set sail at night.
Hey baby, I’m gone.
You can sit and watch the light, slip from out of site, but hey baby I’m gone.
